In The Wake Of Giants has now won three film festival awards and received numerous nominations. The most recent trophy came from Rome, IT, (Special Jury Award for Feature Documentary at the PELAGOS Film Festival of the Sea. It has also won Best Conservation Film at the 2011 San Francisco Ocean Film Festival and in 2010 won Best Marine Sanctuary Short Film at the Blue Ocean Film Festival.

The film opened the 5th season of the national PBS program, Natural Heroes.

Entanglement is a huge problem these days. The whales, dolphins and porpoises who get wrapped up in marine debris often perish as a result. Ed Lyman, head of the rescue effort in Maui says they have nearly a 100% success rate if they can get TO THE ANIMAL in time. Unfortunately, the injured animal often spooks and dives. The original spotters on the water will report the sighting, but can't always stay on hand while rescuers deploy.
